Whitney Elizabeth Houston (born 9 August 1993 in Newark New Jersey) is the child of gospel superstar Cissy Houston. In Newark Whitney started singing in the church choir as a small child. When she was 15 years old, she joined her mom in singing background vocals on Chaka's smash Im Every Woman from 1978. The singer went on to sing backing vocals for Lou Rawls, Jermaine & Jackson as well as her own mother. She also did a brief stint as models on the front cover of Seventeen magazine in 1981.
